Here are some fun facts about Disney Princesses
1. The original eight Disney princesses were Ariel, Aurora, Belle, Cinderella, Jasmine, Mulan, Snow White, and Pocahontas. Merida, Rapunzel, and Tiana were added later.
2. Merida is the only princess whose movie was not based on a folk tale, movie, famous historical figure, or a published book. Brave was an original story.
3. Being born a royal or marrying into a royal family aren’t the only ways of becoming a princess. Sometimes through extreme acts of heroism, one can be considered a princess.
4. You can get a job at Disneyland as a Disney Princess. You get to walk around the amusement park all day wearing a dress and taking photos with people. Not a bad way to earn a living!
5. Most Disney princesses can communicate with animals. The animals often understand English, but don’t respond back. Animals owned by villains, however, frequently speak English.
6. In 2013, the Disney Princesses were redesigned and given new wardrobes. Now at Disneyworld you can see them walking around in their new clothes, and not just what they wore in the movies.
7. In order to be a Disney princess, a girl must be human, or human-like (example: Ariel is a mermaid, but Nala is a lion.) She must also have been featured in a stand-alone movie. So not a sequel, or a television show.
8. Disney Princesses all have beautiful singing voices.
9. The original Disney Princesses (Snow White, Aurora, and Cinderella) were passive and played a “damsel in distress” type of role. Newer princesses are active. They go on their own adventures and solve their own problems.
10. Mulan is the only Disney princess who wasn’t born into a royal family or married into one.
11. Jasmine is the only princess who isn’t the main character in her film. She’s also the only princess to ever kiss the villain. Coincidence? Yes.
12. Belle is the only person in the village who wears blue clothing. After the Beast falls in love with her, he starts wearing blue clothing as well.
13. Merida and Mulan are both skilled archers.
14. If Merida straightened her hair, it would be four feet long.
15. When Jasmine, Mulan, and Pocahontas were redesigned, they were given slightly lighter skin. As you can imagine this caused a bit of controversy.

18. Disney’s character of Pocahontas 18-years-old. In reality she was probably closer to 13.

20. The wisp of hair that keeps falling into Belle’s face was done to show that she wasn’t perfect.
21. The first Disneyland theme park ride for Snow White in 1955 didn’t feature Snow White at all. Riders were supposed to experience the thrill of being Snow White. It ended up being too confusing and the idea was scrapped.
22. Merida is the only princess who doesn’t have an American accent.
23. Belle’s dance scene in Beauty and the Beast was copied from Sleeping Beauty. (The animators were running over budget and had to improvise.)
24. Cinderella was first filmed using real actors. They shot the entire movie. Then the animators used the life-action film as a guide.
25. Tiana’s original name was Madeline (Maddy) but people were upset and called this her “slave name” so it was changed.
26. The only princess with a tattoo is Pocahontas.
27. Jasmine is the only princess not to have a dress as her official costume.
