Thor: Ragnarok (2017) Movie Facts

banner_movie_facts_png.png

This is my favorite movie in the last decade. Seen it probably 50 times. Each time is better than the last. Don’t know how that works, it just does. The girls down in market research tell me that’s called screenwriting. It seems effective. Maybe you should try it sometime.

Here are some fun facts about the movie. Some people call it trivia. You can call it whatever you like as long as you tell all your friends about us. I wiped my finger across a desk the other day. You know what I found? Dust. There hasn’t been dust around here since I opened the joint. - Jet Marlowe

 1. The plot to Ragnarok was partly adapted from the comic book Planet Hulk. Many elements were used including Korg, Meek, and the colosseum. Hulk became a secondary character however.

2. This is the first MCU film where the Hulk is voiced by an actor other than Lou Ferrigno. Lou played the Hulk on the original TV series. Mark Ruffalo voices Hulk in this movie, and future movies.

3. While most people noticed Matt Damon playing Loki during the play/skit early in the movie, they did not notice who was playing Thor. It was Chris Hemsworth’s brother, Luke.

4. Taika Waititi played the character Korg. This wasn’t the first Marvel movie where a director played a main character. In Iron Man 1 and Iron Man 2, director Jon Favreau played Happy Hogan.

5. After Thor loses his eye, he gets an eye-patch just like Odin. This was done as a parallel to show that Thor is the new leader of the Asgardians. In later movies, he gets a new eye, and gives the throne to Valkyrie.

6. After kidnapping Loki, Dr. Strange leaves a card with his address on it: 177A Bleecker St. This was the real-life New York City address of Roy Thomas. Roy was one of the original writers of the Dr. Strange comic book.

7. Cate Blanchett studied Capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian martial art to prepare for her role as Hela. Capoeira combines dance, acrobatics, and music. It was developed by African slaves in the 16th century.

8. The character of Sif was cut from the movie because actress Jaimie Alexander was busy shooting the third season of Blindspot. The female lead was turned into Valkyrie, which worked out pretty well, especially for actress Tessa Thompson.

9. Anthony Hopkins had originally decided against returning to play Odin again. After reading the script he changed his mind. He’s only in two scenes, but they’re both great.

10. Taika Waititi, the film director, said that 80% of the film was improvised, changed, or ad-libbed.
