Quarantine Christmas Ideas: How to Enjoy Christmas During the COVID-19 Pandemic
Not feeling excited about the holiday season? Get inspired with these ideas on how to make your Quarantine Christmas just as special as before.
1. Buy Lots of Presents
They don’t have to be expensive. Unwrapping stuff is fun. If you can’t have a Christmas with lots of family, you can still buy lots of stuff online. Replace your lost family members with an endless supply of shallow gifts. It won’t feel the same, but at least you’ll have some new, cool stuff.
2. Zoom
Set up a video chat website and pretend your friends and family are actually there. If you don’t have friends or family, you could go on Omegle, the online chat room. If you find those willing to participate, put them at the dinner table and you can eat “together”.
3. Write Christmas Cards
Writing to those you love can help you feel closer to them. You may receive one back as well. It’ll feel as good as receiving a package in the mail except it’s filled with heartfelt sentiments. Even better.
4. Write Down a Thankful List
If you’re feeling down, write out a list of things and people you’re thankful for. Health, relationships, goals, values, food, or anything else you’re feeling thankful for. There’s always something. There’s always a silver lining. You just have to look for it.
5. Make a Fancy Meal
You don’t have to feed a million people this year, so why not keep the same budget? Get higher quality food than you normally would and ball out a bit. Get fancy steaks for a couple people instead of chicken for everyone.
6. Read a Classic Christmas Book
While everything around you changed, the book didn’t. It’s the same old book you loved as a child. Get wrapped up in a blanket and read your favorite childhood Christmas book. It’ll make you feel normal for a couple minutes.
7. Go Somewhere with Wide, Open Space
Find a forest, field, or trail you can wander. You can’t be in crowds, but you can still experience exciting sights. Climb a mountain and reach the lookout with your family. With a little effort, you can still have a fulfilling experience without lots of people around.
8. Play a Boardgame
Boardgames can engross you like no other. If you get into an intense Codenames game with your family, your excitement and anger will skyrocket. You’ll feel the same levels of adrenaline as if you’re at a huge party. (Maybe.)
9. Build Your Own Concert
Get a karaoke machine and create your own concert. It’s like your at a music festival with lots of different bands. Obviously, the performance will be only slightly lower quality, but the humor will make up for it. It’ll feel like you’re at a karaoke bar on a Saturday night, waiting to belt out the theme song to Frozen.
10. Do Winter Activities. Go skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, or skating. All these activities can be completed without large groups. Skiing was basically made for a pandemic. Everyone’s already wearing face coverings and stays apart. You can still do many of the wintery things you used to do, just be safe about it.
